It's a book about a boy who bonds with a wolf in the wild and when he returns to civilization he realizes the wolf would get killed. So he chases it off by throwing rocks at it and saying he doesn't want it around, in order to protect it. But obviously I'm a person and not a wolf. It seemed like an apt comparison anyway.

It's not just my hands that are dripped in blood. It's my arms. I could save the world three times over and not be able to wash it off. I understand. But you can't drown in that.
