Re: In-person: Luke/Wren
[He couldn't help but smile when she insisted that he wasn't pathetic, especially how loud she was about it. No matter what he did, she'd always, always think he was good, and she'd argue as much until her very last breath. He loved her for it, even if it was hard to have that kind of faith in himself.] I love you. [It was an impulsive thing, but he didn't regret saying it. Not even a little, and maybe they had their problems and sometimes things were bad, but beneath all that he really did believe they were too strong to break. They came close, yeah, but they always made their way back and that was what set them apart.
It became a lot harder to focus when she kissed his fingers, and he dragged his thumb over her lip, wanting more, and his gaze dropped to watch.] Us. [Quiet, a revered whisper.] I care about us. There will always, always be an us. [He looked up at her, then, thumb stilling and drawing back.] I don't know. I kind of like that you want me, that I matter. [He hesitated.] I like helping people, but you know I love you more, right? There's nothing more important than you. And the kids. [As crazy as Marvel could get, he didn't really like the idea of the kids being somewhere else; they needed permanence, too. Stability. A real home would be good for all of them.] Okay. I think you're right. They should have an actual home, too. [He wished that they could have a different future, beyond the hotel, but there were no guarantees; might as well be practical.
When she whined, he kind of forgot about everything else for a minute, and his arms went around her without him even being aware of it.] Did you? [He kissed her again, quick, before his expression turned thoughtful.] I'm still going to say you're good. I haven't changed my mind.
