Re: In-person: Luke/Wren
[He offered to find them a place, and she was still considering going, leaving. He was always so glad when she came back, always so happy that she could feel it in the way he held her, like he'd almost lost something that mattered. She bit her lip, and she thought, and maybe that was something that was wrong with her. Maybe other people didn't need that. She wondered, and the moment and the offer passed, and she saved it in her pocket for later. He was talking about technology, and her expression went a little more focused. Trying, trying, and she wanted to say something intelligent, something about what tech might involve, but she really had no idea, and maybe that was her not saying enough.] I have [pause] I have no idea what tech even does. I have no idea what you do. I don't even know what SHIELD is. Are they Avengers?
[The admissions all tumbled, like things that couldn't get past her lips quickly enough. She'd never asked about the police in Las Vegas, because she knew the police intimately. All of her life, she'd known policemen. She'd been arrested, and she knew the inside of holding tanks. She understood what his job had been there; she knew. She had no idea about anything here, and she sighed.]
I never asked. [It was a tiny, tiny whisper, realization that barely, barely found sound.]
I don't want to go away for a while. [The admission came a second after his words stopped. It was the truth, and she didn't see any reason not to say it. He had to know, he couldn't not know how the entire world revolved around him. She thought that was one of the things that needed fixing, but she was really, really reluctant.] If I have things I feel passionately about, then it'll be better, won't it? It'll be more like you? [That had to be better, and she did think he was off talking to everyone, to the Avengers, to the heroes, to whoever he spent time with. She was always, always jealous, and all these blind-spots weren't helping.]
Do you really want to find a place? A real place? [The question was so, so tentative.]
