Re: In Person: Babs/Dick
[Dick wasn't sure what any of this meant. It sounded like they were seriously about to be assholes. Legitimate assholes. They both wanted everything. Neither could have it. They were going to be absolutely miserable and their child would as a result and everything would be awful. he was sure of it.
He wasn't sure what was supposed to happen. What he right thing to say was. Well he knew what the right thing to say was, but he didn't know if it was the honest thing.
He was feeling now more than ever the pressure of what he'd been feeling all along. It was too soon. She was too young. She had a life she wanted to live and no matter how much he tried to reassure her, which was exactly what he was going to do, it wouldn't make it true.
He was mad, and upset both at himself and at her. He was sad and scared for all the right reasons and some of the wrong ones. He was pretty sure everyone felt that, but everyone had not just watched their father rescue their half dead sister from a dirty street after being shot by a mad man.
He was mad that she threw in a dig about how no one would miss her. He found it to be bullshit. But he didn't want to fight. Even if he was resigning himself to a serious lack of honesty, so gun-shy she'd just take off if he spoke his mind. He didn't want to do that to her- or to their family who loved her.
He squeezed her hand again and stood up and went to grab a coke from the fridge. Because coke and pop tarts was the breakfast of champions. He leaned against the counter as he cracked it open.] It's going to be fine, Babs. It will be.
