Re: eddie/steph - bathtime.
[The way his voice wavered and cracked nearly broke her into pieces, and her mouth wibbled as she caressed his cheek.] I want you to be happy, too. [How many times had she said that over the past couple of weeks? Months? Years? She constantly felt like she was falling short. But, she knew he was right. This wasn't about pleasing him or doing what she thought they'd both need. It was a commitment. That was the reason she didn't keep her daughter all those years ago. She knew back then that she wasn't ready to be a mother, that she was so far from being able to be a good mother no matter how much heart and compassion she had. It took more than that for a family. And she knew. She knew that. It didn't stop the hurt or the need to heal his hurt, but it was there still. That knowledge that she needed to come to the conclusions herself.]
I want to find her. [She said after a long pause, hands rubbing his arms to soothe that hurt that lodged in his chest.]
