Re: log: lily & james & hiding harry
[She'd known what James meant by brat, his tone underlying a fondness that the connotation might otherwise not have. Hogwarts was an endurance trial, and Lily's familiarity with the quirks in James' humor and his company were nothing alien to her. Besides, she didn't believe that he would insult her. Not ever. He might annoy her to the grave, but he would not insult her, and he would certainly never try to upset her. James actually seemed to go to great lengths to ensure that she wasn't made upset through all of the recent, confusing matters of the hotel. Any time that Severus was visibly being a brat, James asked if she was alright. It all meant a great deal more than she'd expected it to, although Lily supposed that was because she hadn't expected any of this at all.
Lily, and she looked up. Eyes like wild mint and sacred sage, trusting when James promised that No, Harry wouldn't. And when James extended that hand, Lily lifted her own with barely a thought to meet him reach part way. Although, there wasn't even time enough for fingers to so much as begin to brush because CRASH, and as if caught in some act unbecoming of a Head Girl, Lily jerked her hand back. It was the first instinct in a fractioned moment, although others followed. James jumped and Lily spun, startled into wide eyes and racing heart with wand drawn out and pointed perfectly at the wall, where nothing at all seemed to originate to clatter. Candles rolled, and gossamer puddles of wax grew more opaque as seconds thudded onward in time with the pound of her heart in her ears.]
What was that? [And oh, then James was before her with that smile and rather unconvincing dedication to scones. They were delicious scones, but not delicious enough to deter Lily away from narrowed eyes of suspiscion. The Elves were quite irritated, they gave Lily and James sharp glances as if it was their fault. Of course, nothing was ever Lily's fault, and things were almost always James' fault... so it was easy to make the connection, even if it was a vague one. Guilty, her glittering eyes said.
Which is when, with the wand she'd drawn to protect him only moments earlier, Lily pointed. The slender wood lined directly with the tip of his nose.] What are you up to? [And then, because the answer seemed obvious, Lily sucked in a breath before shouting.] Sirius Black, if thats you, come out this second or I'll-- [She glanced from the candlestick mess to James' face, and poked him on the tip of his nose with her wand, angry but empty of threat for once. She dropped her wand a moment later, conceding to the idea of just hating James forever rather than knocking his glasses into another dimension.] --Or I'll never forgive you.
