Re: Old Gotham: Selina/Bruce
[Oh, she didn't expect him to forget. But she meant that later. She had no intention of dying out here, not if she could help it, not now. For someone with a deathwish, she'd always clung stubbornly to life, and now was no different. No, if anything, she was more stubborn at the moment. He wasn't dead. Maybe, maybe just this once they'd win. And maybe the boogeyman from her nightmares would stop being invincible. Because that was the problem with Ra's. He never stopped. But maybe not this time, she reasoned, and it was easier to believe that with Bruce's body against hers. And, as much as she hated the suit, she craved the strength it represented. Oh, she'd fallen for the man inside the suit here. But there was still something about that kevlar. And, hey, old habits died hard, and the cape and cowl still made her purr.
She stared in the barely-there light when he said the talking was a work in progress, and she wasn't used to that smile of his yet, the real one that said he wasn't trying to keep up with her banter. She kissed his chin on impulse when he chuckled, affection that made her go slightly red in the dark. But that didn't matter much when that hug came after. Holding? Maybe it was better to say it was holding rather than hugging. Hugging wasn't something she was good at, but she clung tightly anyway, and she thought that maybe he didn't mind, since his arm around her was bruise-crush tight.] I won't break. [It was a promise given when his grip lightened, and she drew back enough to look at him when he repeated the things she'd said.
The touch to her cheek wasn't sexual. It was like the note left behind in the loft - surprising - and when she kissed him back it was with too much emotion, all pent-up and fear and a moment with her guards down, and she shuddered as the reality of days of thinking him dead slid along her spine. She shoved at his shoulder as she kissed him, instinct in that shove, and she made herself take a step back, a whine of protest on her lush lips at the lost kiss.]
Go. [And this time it was her turn to touch his cheek where cowl met skin.] The sooner this is over, the better. Go. [She stared a heartbeat, two, three, and then she moved back entirely, against the fire escape's railing, space and permission and a smile that was warm in the Gotham dark.] Thank you for coming without me asking.
