Re: Hedeby: Lagertha/Ragnar
A nod, a tilt of his head before he smiled at her. "I did not intend it." To say that he had not been considering ways to get rid of her husband would have been a lie, but he had never thought to have him killed so openly.
Nor by Lagertha.
But now that it was done and there was no better way it could have happened.
He glanced over his shoulder. The hallway behind him was still empty, the people still in the hall, the noise barely heard. He stepped inside, his boots quiet on the earth that was packed hard even here. "A man should not live in fear of his Earl. They were afraid." It had taken only a few minutes with his rump on a hard bench for him to learn of how the people of Hedeby viewed their Earl. And before he left the hall, he heard how they viewed their new Earl.
His gaze lingered on her, on the way that the firelight caught on the strands of her hair, her skin, even the glisten of blood on her hands. He stepped closer, one hand coming out, thumb brushing over her bicep. A light touch, connection forged. "Do you want me to tell you that I wanted him gone? I did."
