Cat was coming, his lack of a response being the answer she needed, but that didn’t mean she had to wait forever. She had almost lingered in the hallways of the hotel, the pull of the other doors tugging at her mind. Wonderland was still her home, more than any other, but who didn't want to leave home, if only for a little while? And resisting curiosity wasn’t her strongest suit, not by a mile. The promise of something new and different, with things to see and touch, was almost impossible to ignore. Almost. She tuned out the siren’s call of elsewhere and focused on her destination. There were other doors, yes, but there were other times for that. She would explore each and every one to her heart’s content one day, but today was not that day. Gotham was not at all what she was expecting, and belatedly she realized she wasn’t sure what to expect. The girl, Kitane - or Fancy as Alice still referred to her in her head - spoke of strange things but this wasn’t all so strange. This was modern, reminding her somewhat of the place her former counterpart use to live in. Where that place was bright, this was dark, dreary. Gotham rather reminded her of London, all dark stones and gloomy night. No more than a few moments in, she disliked it already, and she caught the sight of her wrinkling nose in a shop window before she turned away. A few passersby caught sight of her and her attire, but under the cloudy Gotham night, her summer sky dress was but an unimpressive slate. When they brushed past her, her pockets jingled with the motions, metal against metal. Keys, they would have guessed, and she would have let them keep those thoughts, had they voiced them. There was some appeal to the city, she supposed as she strode along the sidewalks. For she was new, she was strange, but she hadn’t been stopped. There weren't any expectations to be placed on the new and strange girl. And, from what she was told, they were used to dangerous creatures lurking among them. Hunting among them. There were a few ways to find out for sure. Alice simply had to decide which she would like most. |
