Re: Log: Iris/Hatter
He would laugh and smile constantly, if it meant she would mirror him and do the same. He heard the him that was there before was cold and cruel, and it made him curious, because probably it happened. Hatter was many different things. He'd existed a long time. He could be any number of personalities or people. Maybe there was a version of him who was that more than anything else, and it wasn't natural to him, but it could be natural to the Mad Hatter. It was a distinction not many people would probably understand.
"You have a pretty smile," he said, comfortable and easy with compliments. Pretty could mean a lot of different things to Hatter. What someone else might find ugly, he'd like, but he knew Iris wasn't that. He thought Kitty and Alice were pretty too, for other reasons. He thought about what she said about the anchor and then nodded. "Same, only here." He tapped his forehead, it was the obvious example. "Doesn't always work. Have teas to make it clearer. Not dresses." He hadn't served her any teas that had emotions in them yet, although many of his were naturally soothing.
He made a ticking noise with his tongue when he was thinking. "People. People can be left behind. Don't matter in Wonderland. You can be Wonderland Iris instead." And he knew there was a difference. Not a big one, but it was there. He knew she was more relaxed there. Hatter went loads of time without people. He liked them, but it was strange. He opened the door into Wonderland and stepped inside, not tugging her with him, rather releasing her and putting his hand out to her. She had to accept an invitation there, it wasn't a rule, but it was a metaphor to him. "You're always safe with me," he said, more perceptive with his eyes clearer.
