Re: Great Gatsby: Jude/Clem/Shane/Graham
The boy have in easier than expected, and naturally that made Graham a little wary. He wondered if Shane felt the same, crouched low and hiding wherever he was, but he didn't go narrowing his eyes and growling like he was her guard dog trained to bite at unfamiliar hands. No, he was surprisingly calm, steady, maybe because he didn't feel threatened. No need to attack. He waited while Clem stammered through her explanation, watching her all the while, and if he hadn't had an audience he would have reassured her. But he'd talk to her alone, one on one, not with her half brother there all disapproving like.
Once she went inside, muttering about the sun and her complexion, he turned to the boy and broke his silence. "I'll take care of her." It was simple fact, not some pretty promise for Jude's sake. "Should go see what she wants to bring." And he moved to follow, to head inside, not caring a lick if that meant leaving the Murphy boy outside on his own; he issued no invitations.
