Re: Batcave: Bruce B, Gwen S (Carnage)
The lunge came before she could react, and she was just glad there wasn't enough time for Doctor Banner to turn big and green and get hurt. She didn't want anyone else hurt because of this lack of judgement on her part. Because, at the end of the road, this was her monster. She'd created him. She'd spent years with him at college, and a year after, and she couldn't blame anything on a few weeks spent with Ock. Her dad would say this is what came from tucking away problems instead of dealing with them, but this wasn't the time for that, because she was scooped up high against the ceiling by tentacles, and she had a memory of falling. But this time there wouldn't be webs to catch her too late. This time, instead of breaking a toe-scuffing and smiling bug boy, she'd break Jason and Doctor Banner.
They were moving, and that last thought made her reach into the pocket of her jeans, despite her offer to accompany her version of Frankenstein's Monster. The sonic tucked away there was small, but it was her working model, a gift from Ock that she'd used to produce three much larger, much stronger units for the Bats' use. This one wouldn't take down a healthy host, but maybe it would be enough.
She prayed to her dad, because she hadn't gone to church since he died.
"I'm sorry," she whispered to Jason, because she knew it would hurt, even at this level. She waited until he was right at the mouth of the cave, assuming that would propel him out, and then she pushed the button that flooded the room with the sonic field of sound. It didn't go far, but it was closest to Carnage, and she was counting on that making it hurt more.
And then she was falling, falling, and she almost saw Peter's face above her. Her Pete. She realized it had worked, and she saw the blur of red flee through the waterfall on the heels of a terrible scream.
Smack.
The ground was rocks and water. She splashed, hit her head, and the world went black.
