Re: Gatsby: Clementine/Jude
"And enough food you'll probably start complaining it's too much." He smiled after that, because she'd likely say she wasn't going to fit in her dresses, but she was so skinny right now. Jude promised her those things the first time she told him where she was, and he planned on delivering. She was made for sunshine and adoration and smiling as she twirled around in one of her sundresses. If that bloke was what she needed to keep that, he'd find a way.
He was a little surprised she picked up on the father nostalgia, but she did know him well. Jude's relationship with their father was a more amicable one than the others. It was due to his quality as the 'good son,' following his expectations with polish and style. Jude had his fingers in pots that their father might not completely approve of, but he was discreet, and their father appreciated that. "He must think we're all dead," he said, troubled. Four of his children gone like that. "We can't exactly call and explain." So they would never see him again.
He'd believe her, if he didn't see his injuries and her brought so low. But she needed it, and he nodded, 'fooled' for now. The question set him ill at ease, but she deserved the answers, if she was going to return to his life. "I'm still learning. I don't know how to explain it exactly, but I can influence people in a certain direction. I can feed off energy, sap it from others, and I don't think ...." He considered. "I can't be killed that way again. The body adjusts." Jude was honest when he said he was still learning. A part of him knew all the answers, but he was shifting, changing, the rules going with it.
She was owed information, and beyond that, after seeing her, his protection kicking in, he needed to explain. "They've never been here, they don't know where I live. And they can't come into our house, Clem. They're not invited." And that was the closest he'd come to admitting anything. Or addressing their problem directly. Jude might not direct people to the other two, but for her? He could never see her this way again, beaten down and bloody.
