Re: Corner Couch: Jason/Banner
"I don't know why we ended up talking about serious things without meaning to. I don't really question it. Maybe it's just what I told Selina, simpatico, like minded people get along faster." That was how he ended up rationalizing a lot of his quick friendships with the people in Gotham. He had a much harder time connecting to people from his world, although that had plenty to do with his own hang ups. Bruce shrugged and looked around. "I can do serious conversations, or conversations with people I already know. Small talk kills me."
He knew that Jason was right, but he shook his curly head. "I'd much rather keep to myself instead. I tried to talk about the weather once and went into a rant about hurricanes and the environment." So clearly even the easy subjects Bruce needed to steer away from. Every time those small talk sorts stared at him and made an excuse to go away, he felt awkward and it kept him from trying again. Thus how he ended up here. "I'm happy here, everyone seems to be attempting to have a good time. They look happy." They did too. Maybe not everyone was happy for them, but they were attempting, and that was something.
He smiled at Jason's attempt to back track past Betty. "It's okay. She's not a taboo topic, it's just something I'm past, you know? She's an amazing woman and we were happy together then. I hope she's happy wherever she is now." It was sincere too. Bruce was able to get over it, once he realized they couldn't go backwards. He smiled wryly and fidgeted with his watch, it was new and expensive and it felt strange to have. Nice, but strange. "Selina's the opposite in every way, so go figure." He rarely openly addressed his situation with Selina, outside of with Tony, because he knew it made her uncomfortable.
