Re: Near the entrance: Bat/Cat
It only took a few seconds for Bruce to decide that his course of action would be civility, politeness, perhaps the more cowardly route in that he would pretend nothing was wrong but what other choice did he have? A wedding wasn't the place or time for a heart-to-heart talk even if that was a possibility, which it wasn't, and he was trying to keep his distance. He was trying to stay out of her life. He'd known their paths might cross at some point and maybe he should have better prepared himself, but maybe no amount of preparation would ever be enough. He was painfully aware of her fingers splayed out over his chest, just as he was painfully aware of the way she stared. His gaze darted about like a trapped animal, trying to find somewhere to settle, but after a few seconds he managed to summon some tiny bit of courage, enough to actually look at her.
Maybe that hadn't been such a good idea. He looked, and his gaze was caught, and he remembered the last time he saw her, remembered tackling her to the ground. He remembered her naked, and him shoving her drunkenly off his lap; he almost cringed at the memory. As for staying away, nothing about it was easy. Distance was hard, but this, this was just as hard-- closeness and the reminder of all he'd lost. Of all they had lost. He remembered what they'd once been, compared to what they were now, and it still ached.
"I-- no." He flexed his fingers and dropped his hand sheepishly. It wasn't a very cohesive answer, but he tried to shove it aside. There was a certain sense of relief in the space she put between them, and it surprised him, really, just how unprepared he was for this. Maybe he should go. Maybe he hadn't been ready to come back after all. He turned to look over his shoulder, to follow her gaze when she spoke, grateful for the distraction. "They do," he agreed. He looked for as long as he could, let his gaze linger, before turning back to face her.
He shook his head, trying not to focus on the way she smoothed down his lapel. "I haven't decided yet." And then he shook his head again, more insistently this time. "No. Selina, no. I just..." He gestured towards the reception area. "I'm not sure if me being here is such a good idea."
