Re: TWD, Woodbury: Clem/Graham
Shane might say she was selfish, but then again Shane was biased in the worst way and that was no fault of hers. She wanted to live, all the better. Getting out might've seemed damn near impossible but Graham still clung to the stubborn determination that this, zombies and society in ruins, wasn't permanent for her. Didn't matter so much for him, but she needed to get out. Needed to be somewhere better. Safer. If nothing else Woodbury might be the first step in that direction.
That surprised him. "Did I?" He'd felt so old for so long that thinking of himself looking young seemed a foreign concept, much less looking younger than Lorelei. To him, she'd never been old. Never looked it, either, and after years and years she had become such in his mind; young, beautiful, eternal perfection. The only ghosts that haunted him were the ones he'd created for himself. And it reminded him, too, that they'd never really talked about what Shane had told her that day in the cell. He wondered if it was better left that way, untouched; he wasn't sure how to explain without sounding crazy. Right now, here, he knew it was her. He didn't see her sister when he looked at her. It came and went, but he was trying to remind himself, to stay lucid, instead of giving in as it seemed so very tempting to do.
He could feel her watching him, but he kept on looking out the window. "Might turn on us, sooner or later," he said, quiet. "Their way or no way. Been there before." Constantos hadn't been 'the best folk', and he'd offered protection. Money. Stability. So long as it suited him, that is, and he was fickle, explosive, as apt to put a bullet in a lackey's wife as he was to buy her something nice. But that was his past, and he didn't want to make her shoulder his doubts. He forced a smile and turned to look at her when she said she'd keep her eyes open; whether she would or not remained to be seen, but he planned to keep an extra eye on her anyway. "Course I worry. Can't help it." He sighed. "Keep on loving the hot showers. No harm in that. Just keep your eyes open, too."
There was a flicker of something in his gaze when she mentioned Jake. Quick, but not surprise. "I know." Plain and simple. He frowned when she said the boy wouldn't be talking to her for a while, and shook his head. "No." He'd done enough in his own body to ensure he had no damn right to be judging anybody else. "Only talk to you and Shane. Need a break from him sometimes," he added, an attempt at humor.
