It had seemed like a dream when it happened, but were those not in their tales too? A visit from the gods, those that walked the earth as men, could they not come in dreams as well? But to continue saying it would have brought an argument, it would bring distance and anger. And he does not speak of those early days, when he thought this was punishment for angering one of the gods. He knew differently now, but the purpose -- that he did not know.
He gave a little shake of his head. Her sigh did not slide past him unnoticed, but it took a moment before he came closer again. "I do not know," he whispered against the crown of her head. But he knew that she was there and that if a fight came, she would stand beside him in the shield wall. They were not alone and he never liked to focus on what he lost so much as what he stood to gain. As her eyes closed, his head dipped further and all was silent between them.
