The sky continued to pale in the way it does in the hours before the dawn, as she continued to stay silent and stare into the fire. She had forgotten, somehow, the way that Ragnar was intelligent as well as fierce, sensitive as well as brutal. Perhaps she had forced herself to forget in the years since she'd left. Forgotten or no, it was appreciated in those moments when she struggled to gather her thoughts together again.
"I do not know where I have been," she finally managed, her voice still rough. Then, like she finally realized that the water skin was in her hands, she took a drink.
