He had seen her in many different ways the years they had been together. After killing Knut, when he had killed Earl Haraldson and become Earl himself, in child birth, after child birth when they both saw the child she had brought into the world, angry when he told her that she could not come on the raid because she needed to stay at the farm, how she smiled when he returned, how she looked when they had sex, but never had he seen her thus.
When she had emerged from the house after killing Knut, he had not called attention to the tracks of tears down her face, and he had not pried. He did the same now, simply watching the fire burning before them until she was ready to speak. Once could not force her to speak before she was ready to and if one could, she would not have been Lagertha.
