Russ was considerably better at following along with Advanced Mime than he had been when he'd met Ford but it took him until invisible Nathan had been indicated to fully comprehend. The look of concentration was replaced by one of understanding and he shook his head.
"No, Nathan's at Sam's. It was easier to take him there than to pick Sam up and drop them off." And Marina's car was parked outside, car-seat included. He hadn't thought much past finding someone who was competent at looking after kids and had been largely self-congratulatory on the way there: Sam knew how to watch kids. Sam was also small and blond and inherently un-threatening and Nathan had gone to her with a moderate willingness, his heavy, sleepy eyes lifting if only to establish that he was once again being left with someone he didn't know. Russ squashed guilt with relative ease.
"Come on." Coax. Coax. "I don't wanna stick around for homeroom, do you?" He cracked a smile, the joke painfully thin in the hallway.
