Re: Marvel hospital: Tony/Bruce/Steve/Selina
"Bull." Steve's voice was dry, and he lifted his eyebrows, though Tony couldn't see him. Banner's putting people first was still selfish as it met his own needs and, ultimately, was done for himself. The soldier didn't mind the emotional aspect of it. Steve was more heart than mind, that was simple fact, he acted first and thought later; he was the epitome of a man ruled by emotions, but his emotions were not as self-serving as Banner's, as Tony's, at least not usually. Or perhaps his emotions led him down paths that, in the end, were less selfish. He didn't know the minutiae of all of it. But he knew Banner was acting childishly. He didn't necessarily fault the man, he simply hoped the doctor would become aware of such and change it.
Steve was thinking about this when Tony's contorted expression of pain brought him back. Immediately, he stood, and went out to fetch a nurse. He had more to say, but it was lost somewhere in transit, and when he returned with a woman in white, a small paper cup of pills in her palm, he stood quietly nearby, polite and courteous, until she left the room.
Once they were alone again, he came toward the bed. His fingers brushed uselessly at the thin sheets, smoothing down sleep-creases.
"Do you want me to go? If you're not up for company, I can. But if you'd rather not be alone—" Which he understood. He remembered his own hospital room. "—I'm happy to stay. Even if you are an ass."
