It was too much. He hadn't even meant to move, and now the guy was on the floor, gasping for life that was slipping away. The desperation in wet eyes made his stomach turn, and that hallway was traversed again without conscious thought, left hand clenched in a fist and coming down from that high angle, landing a hit that snapped head to the side, vertebrae cracking, everything giving under the force of the blow.
If there was silence then, he didn't stay around to hear it. It was shameful, cowardly, but everything was wrong. So he slipped out of the hallway and fled.
