hospital visit: bruce/steph
[Stephanie was finally settling in after a few weeks in her new home in the psychiatric ward of the VA hospital in Gotham. It wasn't actually home by any means, but familiar faces and routines comforted her in a way it didn't at first. Eddie's constant visits and the way he warmed up her room with bright colors and question marks helped immensely, too. She was making progress, the doctors and nurses assured, even if it didn't quite feel like that. It was slow, slow, slow, and Steph was always used to a quick fix for whatever. Quick fix for injuries, for heartache, for all her problems. There was no immediate salve, no magic pill or session of therapy that was going to crack the anxieties and now growing depression.
But, she was there still, and she was trying, even if she felt so lonely most days it hurt. So, when the nurse caught up with her after group therapy to ask if she wouldn't mind a visitor, she smiled something easy and pleased and nodded, heading back to her room to wait. When the nurse brought Bruce into her room, she sat on her bed, cross-legged and working on something in the sketchpad Eddie had brought her a few days beforehand. Her blonde hair was messy, as usual, and falling in her face, and she wore what had pretty much become her uniform in here -- a pair of leggings, black this time, her Converse sneakers, and a Gotham U hoodie.
She looked up at the doorway and smiled brightly.] Bruce! [There was fatigue around her eyes, and she was skinnier since the last time he saw her, but she was clearly so glad to see him. She slid off the bed and waved him over to a chair piled with wedding magazines next to the bed.] Come sit. [She moved the pile and tossed it on her bed, then smiled.]
