Re: Chinatown Apt: Robert/Selina
Bruce laughed. "Of course I am." He doubted it, sometimes. How human was he? Technically he was a mutant. A mutated human. That bothered him at first, but end of the day he didn't think being other than human meant someone was wrong somehow. Thor was an alien, and he was a good guy. "I didn't really care at the time," he admitted. "I left because it didn't feel right for us anymore, and I had to go back on the run and I didn't ask her to wait. If her coming with me left him, sorry, but it happens." So he was definitely human. Dark eyes watched her and crinkled at the corners when he smiled shyly. "You're better than you think? We've been making it up as we go along."
He saw her slide down and made a decision. He moved around the table to her, and sat down on the floor across from her. Not close enough to box her in, some space between them, but on the same level at least. "I think anyone after all of this would think about leaving. It's easier to run away, isn't it? Flight or fight response. But I can't leave. I can't abandon everyone. I don't know if it's selfish to put you all first, or it'd be selfish to leave. I just want to stop feeling like my skin is crawling and any minute something could go horribly wrong and I'll make it worse."
He was surprised it didn't seem obvious. But that was his head, always jumping to places where it seemed obvious. "Because I promised you safety and I didn't deliver. And you trusted me. Eddie seems to think I'm good for you, but I wonder if I'm hurting you in new ways." Bruce crossed his legs, meditation position, and he wanted to look away but he stared at her instead, intense. "Because I'm about to say something that's selfish and vulnerable and I promise once it's out there, if you want, we can ignore it." He licked his lips, trying to find the courage. "I want you to give me a reason to stay. Tell me you want me to stay."
