[Iris had finally mustered enough energy to explore the penthouse, and one of the doors, quite by surprise, didn't open into a linen closet, but into the hallway of the hotel. She'd stood staring at it for long moments before closing the door again and returning to the nest of pillows and blankets that she'd created in the walk-in closet of the master bedroom. The bedroom itself had just been so big, with windows there too that showed the expansive view of the city, that she hadn't been able to curl up in the exposed room.
But when Hatter had invited her out, said that he was a pony, the thought of it stuck in her head and wouldn't leave. She couldn't quite believe that there was a door that turned people into horses. But she remembered My Little Ponies from before she lost her sight when she was young, but she was uncertain about the actual door.
It was the strange uncertainty that pulled her out of that door and into the hotel. She hadn't changed her clothing, sweatpants and oversized t-shirt, all topped by a giant sweatshirt that hung on her frame. She'd managed to take a shower (again feeling too exposed in a bathroom that was bigger and more open than it had any right to be), and her hair was braided back, one on either side of her head.
She heard him the second she stepped out of her door and closed it behind herself. His voice echoed down the hallways, and she felt her stomach flip with nerves. But she had to make him stop before someone else heard, so she did her best to hurry her steps as well as she could, hand trailing along the wall for the tiniest bit of support as she followed the sound of him until she turned a corner and saw color spilling from an open door.]
