Re: Dream: Selina & Tony
Fear was a constant for the kitten, and she didn't think anything of seeing it mirrored in Tony's face. Tony, right, and she remembered the name with the clarity of dreams, something that might just as easily be chased away with that first second of waking. But there was something strange, something not right, and she realized she might be able to hold onto knowledge after.
No, not might. She knew she could, but did she want to? Wasn't it better to be this? Young, unknowing, unaware of the complete mess she went on to make of her life. After all, she'd done nothing but wish for wealth and stability, to be in control, to have the things she saw behind all those Heights windows. And, somehow, she knew she had none of those things. When she thought of waking, and when she thought of beyond this? It was loneliness that came to mind, and the kitten wanted to stave that off as soon as possible.
But he was scared, the man sharing the cave with her, and that was wrong. Wrong enough that it made her consider, and wrong enough that it made her worry, and wrong enough that she cared. Weakness, and she knew caring was the worst kind, and didn't this prove it?
He let her go, but she didn't flee, escape, wake. She waited, listened to his explanation as he rubbed his arms. Tilt of head, and she didn't scream, yell or tantrum. No, just curiosity as she asked, "what were you trying to fix?" A beat. "And how do we fix you?"
