Re: Crowd Outskirts: Conner/Donna
Donna would never know that sort of confidence in one's own safety, but she also had never known any sort of danger. It wasn't that she couldn't be hurt, but more than no one would have any reason to hurt her. She stayed to herself, promoted pacifism, and generally tried to not be obnoxious if anyone spoke to her. Except for some reason, that unshakable certainty that everyone wanted to treat other people like people, with respect for their lives and rights, was completely erased here in Gotham. Conner's presence and the way he held himself helped her feel better about the strange new city.
A rush of relief washed over her, and she smiled easily, "Good." Then her eyes widened, realizing immediately how off-putting that may have sounded, hastily adding, "Uh, I mean, it's good because I'm not a dancer either." And that rambling started once more, unable to shut herself up. "If we're being honest, I haven't exactly ever been to a party. Not just a party that's fancy like this one, but any party." She shrugged and looked down at her plate, pushing one of those wontons around idly, "I wasn't exactly popular back home, so there wasn't any need to learn how to dance. My dad tried to teach me the Running Man at one point, but he's just as nerdy as I am."
Donna giggled as the squid was pushed aside, and reached over to yank it off his plate so he didn't have to deal with it. "Sort of. I've got three older brothers. They generally would do that to me. It's not often I get the chance." She smiled up at him, a small apologetic shrug offered before she turned her attention back to the calamari in her fingers. "Here goes nothing," and popped the lone piece of squid into her mouth, chewing carefully. "It's... not bad." Swallowing quickly, she clarified, "It's not great, either. Kind of like lobster, but not as sweet? Definitely edible, but I wouldn't order it, I don't think. Maybe if there was a sauce?" Okay, Donna. Shut up about the squid. "The sliders are good?" Her attention was put firmly back on him.
