Re: Borderlands: Kara & Rhys
Kara didn't know about corporation structures. When Krypton died, she was fifteen, and her biggest worry was about the gene match her mother was to make for her. Her father thought it was too early for marriage, but her mother was a romantic, and Kara was excited about kissing a boy. On Krypton, babies were genetically created, and sex was not something good couples did, but she was young and wanted a boy to kiss her. She hadn't cared about her father's troubles with the Council, and she didn't believe the rumors about the planet being in danger. Like most people on Krypton, she believed they would move to a new homeworld if Krypton wasn't viable anymore.
Even in the wake of her planet's destruction, Kara did not understand things like 'time was money,' and a handshake was only a handshake. On Pandora, she'd learned about sex more than she had with Sam or Damian, and she'd learned it was not good; she didn't like it.
His appeasing smile was taken at the value of the face, and then the caravan was moving through the city that had been her home for many days. She would come back. She had already decided she didn't want to go to Gotham. The only person who had been nice to her was Shahrrehth, and he would come to her here if she asked.
She was trying to determine what the expression was that accompanied his words of this being his friend's home, when he asked if the genetics made her powerful. "This vehicle belonged to your friends who are gone." The observation was a statement, and she tilted her head after these words. "No. My powers are because of the sun. I do not know why. All my people have this power in places with a bright yellow sun."
Almost on cue, the caravan exited into the sunlight, and Kara closed her eyes. It was quick, the effect of the sun on her. It was quick to disappear, too, if the layers of earth or steel or water were thick enough. There was no need for it to fade, and sometimes she had wondered why she had her powers at night. H'El had told her once it was the earth absorbing the rays, and she thought it must be true, but it was still strange to her.
He mimicked her BOOM, and she looked at him. Her smile was mischievous, and her freckles stood out brightly against her cheeks. With no warning given, she opened the moving caravan door, and she fell out into the desert.
