They were usually alone here. No one ever visited, no one ever came, and after a while, they had become okay with that. There was loneliness, of course, but really, weren't there much bigger things to worry about than being lonely? Hungry children, fighting children, a planet that was hurtling towards disaster. A little loneliness paled in comparison.
So the sound of a voice, when it broke through the haze and murk, was a surprise. A head was lifted, eyes just visible as bright points beneath stringy strands of unwashed hair. They were silent for the longest while, until a point where one might even become unsure that they had heard the spoken words. But then a hand lifted, fingers half curled with weakness, and an answering call of words. "Hello."
The voice was hard to place as either male or female, that curious pitch that could swing either way and would only be decided by a clearer look at the owner. But clear looks were not to be had here. Just haze and murk cloaking the details. "No one ever visits," they said, the hand dropping back down to rest upon a straightened knee. "How did you come here?"
