Luke tried, but he didn't make it to the door fast enough to get it open before it was blocked. He tested it, turning the knob and pressing against it with his shoulder, but it didn't budge. He'd need more force. He stepped back, prepared to work up the momentum to break it down, but paused when the man spoke from the other side. "What?" It didn't make sense, what bounty? Was there one on his head or was the man talking about himself? Maybe he thought he was a dirty cop trying to collect. That wouldn't surprise him.
But he wasn't interested in any bounties, not beyond the why.
Again, he tried the door. A shove. Nothing. He was about to keep trying when the man's voice came and made him pause a second time. Impersonating a police officer? Did the guy think he wasn't a real cop, but some kind of hired gun sent to kill him? (That still raised the question of why.) "I'm not impersonating a police officer. I am a police officer." He frowned, but he didn't let his guard down. He was still ready to shoot if need be. "Killing me would guarantee you spend the rest of your life in prison, so I wouldn't recommend it."
