Re: Passages: Bruce B and Matt M
[Bruce had been far too many places (some of them with less than reliable medical care) to not have encounted others who were blind. It could still sometimes be a little unsettling, but not nearly as much as so many other things that he'd experienced. He was able to accept the lack of eye contact (never truly a huge participant of it himself these days) and the never-quite-focus of Matt's gaze, the way an ear was always tilted just a bit to catch every last bit of sound. He was also familiar with the tension of those that never or rarely saw doctors, or those who had only bad experiences with them. In those cases, it was usually easiest to rely on the help of the patient's family and friends, or to try to be the least "doctor-y" as he could manage. His memory slipped back briefly to meeting with James, extracting shrapnel while trying to be as non-threatening as possible.
He had a feeling Matt was going to fall into the latter category.
Bruce nodded a little.] The hotel. It... The theory I've seen around most is that in one of the worlds, we're all fictional. And there are different stories about us. The hotel picked us up from whichever version it wanted and put us all here. [He paused, reaching up to take his glasses off before realizing that he wasn't wearing them.] There's also people around that say they're the real ones. I'm still not exactly sure how that's meant to work.
[He caught the shifting expression on Matt's face, and it actually made him huff out a breath that wasn't actually a real laugh.] Seems like one you could've gone without hearing again.
