I'm interested in anything that doesn't involve sitting around feeling sorry for myself, which includes not "listening" to people yell at me through a written medium for something I totally have no fucking control over.

I think the motivations for entering that door differ, but only marginally. Meredith seems to believe it will make someone want to rescue her, ergo making her feel wanted. Helena goes there to face her demons, but I think there might be a sub-conscious desire for people to notice she's there and worry. Both situations share a feeling of not being loved, which sucks. But I'm not sure that running in there can really achieve the desired goal, not permanently. Meredith's lover might save her, but there's no reason to believe it will improve their relationship. Helena's family all gathered in the hall, waiting to go in and rescue her, but there's no reason to think her relationship with them will improve as a result.
