Re: Log: Bucky B/Steve R
[The thing about Bucky being his Steve's sidekick, he always knew the man more than the legend. They might not have grown up together, but in a way they did. Bucky was a kid, sure, but he wasn't wet behind the ears or naive the way his partner was. They evened out in a lot of ways. He was the one that Steve felt comfortable being himself around, like he didn't have to put on some face for him. And Steve made Bucky feel useful and part of something special.
He hated being Captain America. It felt wrong, because it was wrong, for him. He didn't want to wear it the way Steve did, and he learned very quickly that it was an exhausting and lonely job. He wasn't trying to live up to Steve, and it was still more difficult than he ever imagined. He dealt with squabbling in a brutal way, telling everyone to shut the hell up and get over it. Leadership qualities? Not at their best. Still, he knew from the outside what the pressure was like. Maybe he could still be useful in an old way.
Bucky shrugs out of his jacket; it's designed to suit the arm, all of his clothes have to be now, but he's used to it.] That was half of the point, buddy. [Taking it and wasting it. Bucky listened for a second.] They don't make music like they used to.
