flash/mk: x-mansion
Who: Flash & MK
Where: X-Mansion
When: a couple hours after getting MK safely to the mansion
What: making sure she's okay
Warnings: tbh

Flash didn't really want to fucking be there. He knew he had to, he knew that MK didn't have a lot of people with their head on straight, but the mansion freaked him out. It was hard for the dudebro to describe, but the mansion felt like it was built on too much history, that too much shit could go wrong within the walls and that mutants would have resented him if they knew his relationship with his own powers. For them, mutation was life changing and incurable. They couldn't leave the powers behind to live normally, they couldn't turn it on and off like Flash could.

To him, Venom was sometimes an addiction, sometimes a crutch, sometimes a friend. He needed it, he relied on it and at the end of the day he felt like he was nothing without it. And sure, there had to be mutants that felt similar things, but when he walked the halls, he saw self-loathing and unsure fear more than anything. And, he knew that was how MK would feel. He knew this was a burden and that if she even cared an ounce what Adam thought, it'd be something he'd kill her for. Something he'd hate her for.

Flash was true to his word, though and he promised to make sure MK was alright before bouncing. She was put in a room upstairs and after making sure she wasn't hurt, left alone. Flash kept his suit on in case something went bad (Venom: fire bad, fire BAD and we're here in the fire house why?) and he needed to get out of there with as many innocent kids as possible. He wasn't too worried about that, though. Jean Grey could take MK in a fight. Jean Grey could burn the whole fucking world down if she walked.

After a couple hours of waiting outside of MK's door, he knocked on her door to see if she was awake. "Hey, it's Flash Thompson." The last name added in case she knew some other Flashes.

Flames.

She could remember the way her body burned before her mind slipped into darkness: every inch of her, every vein winding through her body stinging with fire. There was a scream, and there was darkness, and the darkness pervaded. She wasn't aware of anything, the seizing fit knocking her into a deep unconsciousness. She was unaware of her brothers (oh the ones that she didn't actually know about just yet) coming to the hospital, she was unaware of Sam's condition, she was unaware of everything. In her sleep, even in her sleep, all she could hear was the distant crunch of bones breaking and all she could feel was the sizzle of fire underneath her skin.

When she came too, she gasped, guzzling air liked she'd been drowning. A couple more gasps, and she heard the knocking at the door before she realized she wasn't in a hospital room, or back in her home. It was smaller than her bedroom in her penthouse on the Upper East Side, more dorm-like and reminding her of her tiny apartment in Queens. Was she back home? Did the hotel kick her out again? Then, the knock happened again, and she heard a familiar voice, and she blinked a few times at the light-colored walls. "Hey," she said weakly, voice still hoarse and hopeful that her voice carried through the door. "Come in," she croaked. Sitting up a little more, she tried to accumulate herself to the surroundings fast. Real fast. She could hear whispers already, and she suspected she was back in Marvel, and that caused her heart to hammer hard in her chest.

Because she didn't want to be back here. She wanted to be far, far away from all those voices and the abilities. She wanted to ignore the problem like she was so good at doing with everything else in her life.

She wanted to numb all of this out.

A shake of her head, and she told herself no, she didn't need that. She didn't need that. She didn't need that.

When Flash opened the door, he'd she the frail former-redhead curled up in her blankets, oversized shirt and borrowed shorts making her look even thinner. Her blonde hair fell in a stringy mess of curls around her face. Her bright green eyes blinked, and blinked again, and she tried to ignore the scattered words that slipped in her head that weren't her own thoughts. "Where the fuck am I?" And he could hear the shake in her voice underneath that raw croak.

Flash looked like the same old Flash she knew, but maybe never actually got to meet that often. Tall, extremely buff and a little too serious for his age. That last part wasn't who he was at 16, but over the years he developed a sense of responsibility for everyone he cared about. Most people couldn't take care of themselves, he reasoned, and it was important to be the one guy who could always show up and get shit done. Which was what he did for MK, what he did for that girl in Silent Hill, what he'd do for any of his friends if they needed him. Sure, it made him kind of sad sometimes and he knew that people like Gwen really fucking worried about him. But, he got shit done. He did his best to make sure people didn't get hurt.

Black bubbled and popped at his legs (they weren't actually his legs, but Venom compensating for him). Flash was so used to it now, he didn't even notice. "Xavier's Mansion. The place mutants go to learn about their powers. Jean Grey is here now. You guys have similar powers, kinda. Though she'd probably fucking kill me for saying that out loud." Flash offered a smile and walked into the room, wandering over towards the window.

MK's eyes fell on his face for a moment, at the seriousness in his brow, and she knew immediately how much the last few years weighed on him. He could see it in her green eyes, too, and in the purple bags that cradled them underneath. In the thinness of her body and the defeat in her bones. Sure, she was clean, and sure, she was out of the toxic relationship that dragged her down to the depths of hell. But, that didn't mean that she wasn't haunted by everything that had happened. Her lips dipped down as she looked at him and how serious he was, and she knew that kids their age weren't supposed to be like this. They were supposed to be living through their early and mid twenties, learning how to be adults and failing most of the time. But this fucking hotel? Their lives? Fucked them up beyond comprehension.

And now, with their powers, it only made matters worse.

Blinking a few more times, she pushed herself out of the bed, frustrated by not knowing what happened and with bounds of energy that needed to be expended. But, her legs were a little wobbly, and she ended up leaning her hip on the side of her bed to steady herself. "X-Men?" She knew vaguely about them from her time with Adam, when he actually liked comic books and read them to her during quiet moments when they weren't tearing each other down piece by goddamn piece.

And then, she saw the bubbling legs, and she stared unabashedly for a moment. She didn't want to ask, and she assumed it had something to do with Venom. After all, she'd had Venom crawl up her skin before. She could guess a little bit of how the thing worked. Instead, she decided to focus on the X-Mansion some more. "So she's here, does she know how the hell to control all this?" She waved at her head, then down her body, and then she frowned, trying so hard to drown out the faint whispers. She wasn't sure if they were his thoughts or the thoughts of others in the building. Regardless, she didn't want to know either way.
