Re: Graham R/Penny R
[Graham left Joy over with Shane, since she was sleeping and he didn't want to wake her up. Besides, they were right next door, yeah? And she was just a little girl who probably didn't understand a whole lot of grown-up talk, but he still didn't think she should be hearing the kinds of things he and Penny needed to talk about. Jake was real troubled, more than he'd thought, and it bothered him a whole lot that his parents were involved. He'd thought he was doing the right thing, leaving the boy with his grandparents. Never in a million years did he think they'd kick him out. He still had a hard time wrapping his head around it.
He knocked once before opening the screen door, a smile for the dog that came prancing over and a rub behind the ears.] Hey. [Since he couldn't see Penny he figured she was further in, and he followed the sound of her voice into the kitchen.] Sure. Thanks, Penny. [He came round the corner and smiled again.] Nothing fancy. Ain't got to go all out for me.
