Re: Alley Pond Park, Queens: Cerise & Clem & Cris
Sometime they burn 'um to destroy the evidence... but still he drug her out here. [The healthy fringe of trees kept the full force of the sun from truly beating down on them, but Cerise squinted with eyebrows drawn. It was a thoughtful, pained expression as Martin knelt beside the covered remains. Summer was sticky warm, but she'd grown up on fire. She didn't feel closed in enough without sleeves most days, and when she crossed her arms, it was a comfort. Thoughts got cold, and she paced coltish behind Martin, glimpsing over his head when he lifted the sheet from the body. It'd been a long, long time since she'd seen this. The charred aftermath. Skin that blistered into ash, sinew shrinkwrapped tight to the bone. Cerise looked away then, whiplash quick. She didn't want to see the nonexistent face, the hairless screaming skull. She could see this woman superimposed over a dozen others, a flipbook of her old life where people were burned to light up the dark. Suffering was the wick of a madman's flame, and she didn't know what to feel. Seemed best not to feel anything at all, and she glanced back toward the body then, contemplating even as SVU dropped the blanket low again.]
Lets hope it doesn't come to that. [Gas chamber green eyes took to the blond woman when she said that she'd let them know if any future scenes resembled this. Cerise didn't want to come across another scene like this, serial arsonists hit a little too close to home. With any luck, forensics would uncover DNA or prints that could put them in the path of the killer before he got any ideas of an encore.]
Is she the one who came upon the body? [A tilt of the head was Cerise's gesture toward the woman who was still sitting on that shady bench further out with her little ones.]
