jurassic world: selina/steph -- escape
[Stephanie's vacations were always cut short, and she wasn't very much surprised either. Gotham just loved to blow up when some of them were distracted with other issues. That damn city, her home despite her better judgement, was just such a damn attention whore sometimes, and well wasn't it always choosing the most inconvenient times to throw a fit? First the mobs, the complete takeover of the entire city, and then her dead brother comes back again. Only this time it was clearly not the one she had lost twice. Not the one that she mourned for months and pushed away good things because of. She wasn't sure whether it was better or worse that he was different, but fatigue made it hard to feel anything else at all aside from worry. Worry that they could be chomped by a dinosaur before they reached the, worry that the city could burn down before they had the chance to save it, worry about her family and what this was going to mean for them. Worry, lastly and least, about how having Damian back was going to make her feel. She was already a wreck; this could send her back over the edge.
A tiny, selfish part of her wanted to stay lost in the jungle and running for their lives, but she knew that there was no goddamn way that either of them could stay away for long without the guilt gnawing at the back of her brain. So, they trekked, and they were theoretically on their way back to the dock where they'd arrived. She was sweat and mussed hair and purple bags under her eyes. The thinness from days earlier progressed, and she looked exhausted. But, exhaustion was better than thinking, and that? Was such a Gotham girl trait.
The path was trees looming above head and distant roars miles away that still shook tiny puddles of water scattered throughout. Steph really fucking wish the monorail worked, but here they were. Walking.] I can't wait to take a hot shower and have indoor plumbing. Small pleasures in life.
