Re: Penny's place: Clem & Penny & Frannie & bacon & gelato & toe splints
[Clem didn't know all that quiet was musing, but she'd disagree with every damn bit of it. Folks, they were all tangled up in each other's living, and that was how it should be. Growing up south, she'd learned that quick, and folks weren't made for being alone, not a damn one of them. But she figured Penny didn't want to talk, so she tried real hard let her have that quiet. The woman's toe wasn't going to go falling off, and that phone was set aside, and Clem figured she'd already said too much, least far as Penny thought.
She stood, and she turned the television on to something real old, Marilyn trying to find herself a husband that liked himself blondes, and it reminded Clem of her momma some. She picked up the gelato, went to put it in the cold, but she stopped midway and she looked at the blonde on the couch. She was trying to suss whether to keep her own mouth shut, but Clem, she was real bad at not sharing her opinions, however loud or unwanted they might be.] You sound like someone feeling real sorry for herself. Some advice, sugar, from me to you. Don't bother with any of that. Don't do a thing for you, and it won't do a thing for him. Your real opinion, that's worth a whole heck of a lot more than you sitting there claiming folks understand it better, when you understand him better.
[She lifted the gelato.] I'm going to put this away. You and Marilyn chat, and I'll be right on back.
