Re: Quicklog: Marvel, Clem & Jake
[She drove quiet some, thinking about art being art. It wasn't something she understood much, because Clementine's whole life had been silver spoons and anything she damn well pleased. Her folks had been ornery she'd gone off to college to do something useful, and that had been the real crime with her people. Her daddy wanted her to stay with him forever, and her momma wanted her to glitter, and neither of them wanted her fussing with folks' innards and risking her life every damn day. All things considered, she didn't see what was wrong with arting, and this boy had money to go to school, to do any damn thing his pleased. But she figured he was prideful some, though she had no damn clue who'd that come from her. Her folks? They all knew taking what the world handed was their due, and wasn't a thing wrong with it.
Then he asked about her momma, and she laughed real incredulous as she pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant.] You know about your grandmomma. Everyone in Savannah does. Same church as your grandparents every day Sunday in her big old hat, and shocking the whole town by bedding married menfolk. Just down the road from the big house, and that's how Graham and Lore met, same little school district. Lore, she didn't go private tutoring like me. [She shook her head.] Your grandmomma, she was a real rotten B-movie actress, but she was pretty as Marilyn, and she knew it fine. She's town gossip, honey, and she likes it real well that way. Never did get on real well with Graham's folks, and she thought Lore could do herself a whole lot better.
