You're right. It was easy because you were in a bubble. Now you aren't anymore, and life is rarely as simple as you were lucky enough to have it be for those few years. Now you get to decide whether Neil's complicated life is one you want to be involve in, but make no mistake, he does care about you. You are the only one who can weight what that means against the fact that you don't get on with most of his family.
Sam was right, by the way. You don't come home drunk to an alcoholic. I'm willing to forgive that, since I assume you can't have known that, or you didn't intend to.
