Re: gotham; a bat and a turtle
A thoughtful hum left the back of Donna's throat, "How will we know if we've arrived at the appropriate 'there'? Perhaps one of those 'you are here' signs?" Eyebrows raised as though the question were entirely serious, she had to hold back the grin that threatened to break out from his playing along.
Gotham was grim and dangerous, and Bruce (of all people) knew it better than anyone. Donna had fresh eyes for the city, and while inky blackness hid away the corruption and bloody hands, she believed that the darkest shadows could be dispelled with even the smallest of sparks. Part hopeful optimist, and part blissful ignorance that people actually wanted to hurt others. The innocence of a woman that had never been in real danger. "Every city has room for improvement. Some more than others, yes. But on the surface, in my highly professional and entirely unbiased opinion after being here less than 24 hours? I like it." Donna returned his smile, and shrugged lightly, "Or maybe they know better than to worry." She chewed on the inside of her cheek for a moment, contemplating the why shortly before coming to the conclusion, "Because the hotel wouldn't let that happen... right?"
At first she was skeptical, figuring what he described was much like the dream. Bruce's serious expression changed her mind immediately. She stumbled over her feet, shock tripping her for a moment before she righted herself to follow beside him around the corner. A wolf? Donna's eyebrows rose sharply, not entirely certain how to process this new information. On one hand, it was useful to know, to be able to anticipate the possibility of being exposed once more. On the other hand, it was all very fantastical and extremely difficult to wrap around her realist mind. "As if Christmas shopping wasn't hard enough, hm? Does it happen to everyone, do you know? Or do some people get 'skipped over' as it were?" Her brother had gotten here first out of the three of them here, but he didn't have one of those dreams. That bothered Donna more than she let on to Leo because it caused some of her theories to crumble, yet spawned new ones. Not that she could ever, ever test any of her brain theories. She just needed something, one thing, that was rooted in reality. A lifesaver to keep her from drowning in the rough and choppy ocean of the unknown.
