Re: Apartment: Mingmei & Donna
Mingmei paused at Donna's first question. Thanks to her education and getting to study in Hong Kong a bit, Mingmei had been aware of the Western world for quite some time before she'd come here. She paused, thinking quietly to herself, then shrugged. "Well, we have a few Western things where I am from. I was born in Shenzhen, which is near to Hong Kong. We were very much open to the West. I mean, we have Starbucks and McDonald's everywhere," admitted Mingmei with a small smile.
At the thought of teaching someone bargaining, Mingmei beamed. "Oh, I can teach you! Cantonese are experts at it." She nodded emphatically. "It's actually considered rude if you don't bargain at home, to be honest, and an insult to the local business. I mean, seems a bit strange here, but we're expected to bargain and they set the prices assuming that we will." She paused, then added, "You really only accept the offered price after much bargaining and only as a high compliment to the creator of whatever it is that you are buying."
As Donna plated their finished dumplings, Mingmei's eyes scanned down the pages in front of her, scanning and scrolling the information easily. "Hmm?" she looked up when she heard her new friend talking to her. "As far as I can tell, it's still going on Shadow. I mean, it's a great concept and everything from what I see here. Very well put together so far. I do see a few places where we can add some visuals to really make thing stand out, though." Mingmei motioned to where she'd been taking notes, then pointed back up to the exact same place on the screen. She dotted some new notes down, then motioned back up, just making a few simple changes to the code. "What would you think if we changed this here?" she asked softly, unsure of how Donna would think of making changes right away.
