Apartment: Mingmei & Donna
"Oh, we call them jiao-zu," Mingmei stated happily, glad to share the Chinese language with someone. She definitely didn't mind the questions and she was more than happy to share any information. "Have you been to Japan before?" she asked, noting that the girl had offered up her knowledge like she was intimately familiar with it.
As Mingmei set things up on the counter, her eyes widened in surprise at the three monitors sitting on top of Donna's desk. Her proudly purchased Apple laptop was a new thing to her. She understood coding and technology, but her possessions were proudly purchased and well-researched. She was in awe of the computer set up, grinning excitedly. "Oh, I know this song! Nirvana, right? I also like Metallica, too. Very cool music." Mingmei nodded happily, then went back to the kitchen.
She seemed puzzled a moment by Donna's confusion about her making the wrappers. What other way was there to make them? "Oh, I guess this is the only way I really know how. Just make it with flour and water to form the dough. You want it a little thicker than cookie dough so it can be steamed or boiled, however you prefer, so that way it doesn't fall apart in the warm water." At Donna's question, Mingmei paused in her preparing of the dough to think a moment.
"Ah! If you want you can chop the vegetables? They need to be very tiny so they can fit into the dumpling. What sort of sauce do you prefer? I didn't know, so I have teriyaki and soy sauce but I can mix in other seasonings too."
