Hateful was just like breathing to Clem, and that wasn't likely to change no time soon. She had a whole family full of siblings she hated like burning, and she could kill the ones she loved, just the same as looking at them, some days.
Clem grinned at Penny's explaining of loving and leaving in Alabama, and she pulled into the drive like silk; she really did love this damn car. She tucked Penny's phone away. "We're going with my version of decent menfolk tonight, and he should have seen you to your door." She cut the engine, and she pocketed the keys as she climbed out and went around quick, in case Penny needed help any.
That comment about being spoken for, that was real telling, and Clem made all kinds of leaps between the man at the bar and the woman she was helping on out of that red car. "Let's get you to bed, and you can figure out weird come morning, when you call him and see what the heck he got up to that was so important."
