Re: Loggything: Penny and Clementine
"Olivia sounds smart as geniuses," Clem said, because anyone being compared to her had to be real smart. She'd had a long period of plain old dumb, but it was easy to blame that on ending up with rotting things for six months. A brain wasn't made to go spending time with the undead, no matter how popular zombie apocalypses were. She figured herself smarter now, recent, and it had just took a while for her brains to catch back on up with her. As for Penny's ex-husband, men were damn fools, rich or poor, and it didn't matter a whole heck of a lot. She could admit to caring a whole lot for a select few, but that didn't mean she couldn't see they were dumb as posts when taken as a whole.
The talk about interrupting something with a girl made Clem wonder if anyone had it easy 'round these parts. "Fine. You wait until morning, but you call early and make his head pound real loud from hearing the phone. I understand the man's got him some problems, but that don't mean he leaves you drunk and stranded." She said it rigid, because New York could be dangerous as heart attacks for women, and Penny could be capable as could be, but drinking still made her vulnerable plenty. Clem didn't know a thing about a girl, toxic or otherwise. She just knew Penny'd been sitting on a bench, drunk off her ass, in the middle of the night. Clem, she wasn't bothered by pesky thoughts about what motivated other folks. Being selfish, it extended to folks she cared about some, and right now that was Penny.
Course, she still hated the woman some over that whole diner incident with Joy, but that hate was fading hard. It was near a revelation for Clem, the fact that she could forgive a person. She was real sure that trait didn't pass down the Murphy or Wakefield line.
"She was a man," Clem said of the woman in her dream, and she turned herself back onto the road headed to Penny's duplex. "Turns out her name's Irene. It was real fine." She glanced over. "You planning on getting in touch with him, disengaged or not?"
