Re: Mina M/Victor F We have but faith: we cannot know; For knowledge is of things we see And yet we trust it comes from thee, A beam in darkness: let it grow.
Aside from Edgar Poe, whom you have named an interest in, what opinion do you have of the American poets?
There is mathematics in poetry, rhythm like notes of music. There is a form of science to it, beauty founded in its precision as often as its words. Poetry calls to intelligence, unlike the heart. I am not certain the two are connected at all.
I cannot claim to be only science. Just as in your womanhood, you would not be able to claim to be any one sole thing, so I find the same to be true of myself as a man. I am a doctor and a scientist, true, but there is an element of science so often forgotten by those that live outside of it. We are dreamers, wonderers. We thrive in the prospective what-ifs. For without the aspirations of dreamers, how could fresh discoveries be made?
Perhaps I will tell you my short story one day then. If you would be willing on this night, I would like to hear yours, Miss Murray. If there is anything you would like to tell.
