Re: marvel: eddie/muerte
[They must have looked ridiculous, sitting on the ground, Eddie's legs pulled up and Muerte doing her best to curl around his side, her knees tipping toward him and wedging under the V of his legs. She tried to match her breathing to his, because it was just a little steadier than hers, and it was calming to focus on the rhythm of it. She winced just a little at the weight of his arm across her back where she realized her slide down against the wall was a little rougher than she'd intended. The wince was barely a tightening around her eyes, hard to see when she leaned in to press her mouth against Eddie's shoulder, like a kiss that she just didn't pull away from immediately. She clung when he took her hand, lacing her trembling fingers with his. Her heart still beat hard, remnants of whatever that had been.
She was quiet and gave Eddie the time to find the words he wanted, knowing herself how tricky that could be. She waited, and did her best to listen without reacting, though her heart still double-beat a few times, keeing her just a little breathless. She waited until he was done, and then squeezed his hand at the apology and shook her head the slightest bit. She didn't feel like she needed apologies from him. At least not because of something his mind twisted into on its own.]
I like the first voice. [The comment was soft, and she tried to smile, though it came as a weak effort. And then she was quiet for a while, expression thoughtful, trying to figure out what had gone wrong with her.] I think... I didn't know how to read your reaction? When I told you and you moved away and couldn't look at me, and I thought the worst. I thought you looked... tired. Like it was something else to take on. I... don't even know where that thought came from. Other things you've said haven't been like that at all. [She swallowed hard, tried to find more of the voice that had grown even quieter as she spoke.] Maybe... I was already off-balance from remembering about... my brother.
