Re: Log, Ocean's Eleven: Neil D & Lin A
On some level, Neil was aware that far too much importance was put on getting along. It was like Sam believed it was a magical solution, Mere's acceptance into the fold, and maybe he should have put his foot down sooner. Maybe he should have set her straight. The double date disaster seemed like a big deal because so much was riding on it, and he didn't even know why. All the questions Lin asked were valid ones, entirely valid, and he found himself considering them seriously while waiting for Elvis to arrive and kick off a stranger's wedding.
"I don't know," he said, but then reconsidered. "No, I do. She thinks it'll alleviate some of my stress." He shook his head. "She doesn't have to make things easier for me. But she thinks she does, she blames herself for things she shouldn't." He paused. "I know now that I shouldn't have agreed. I can handle it, Lin, I don't need anyone to make peace. I mean-- I'm not ungrateful, I just don't need it," he explained with a shrug. As for talking about Mere with Sam included, well, that left him silenced for a good minute. "I'm just... I think that's why they didn't get along." His brow furrowed. "Our lives are very intertwined."
