Re: Log, Ocean's Eleven: Neil D & Lin A
Differences were what made people interesting, like, if we're going to get into broadest-stroke philosophy (world's largest paintbrush: ~28 ft in length, 4.4 ft in diameter at its maximum width; perfect for the task of overgeneralization). Sure, they could get a little vast and insurmountable with some people, but Lin was of the firm belief that enough empathy and time, and anyone could like anyone. And he was pretty judgmental when he wanted to be, lbr. But, like, if everyone was the same, it'd be boring (bc what if everyone was hella into stamp collecting? An okay hobby in its own right, but not that thrilling), confusing (how do you tell person from person?), and just not good (hello, 7 billion people acting passive aggressive always). (Also, scientifically speaking, would this have started a long time ago, would it be the effect of some mass delusion? What are the stakes, yk??) But, seriously though, differences were crucial to humanity, and w/e, maybe he was expecting too little, but so what if they didn't get along?
Was it the end of the world?
Was it somehow Neil's fault?
Would someone die?
Lin didn't see the big deal. So what if their double date imploded? They'd tried or whatever, and now they could go back to just hanging with their SOs. Louis might not ever 'accept' Meredith, because it was easier to like your brother's gf when she was your sister you were kind of obsessed with, and that was a hard act to follow, but eh. Lin's family wasn't one where everyone loved everyone and got along and meshed, and maybe it was bc of that that he just didn't get why it would matter. He could imagine it, but he couldn't make himself feel it.
"Easier for you how? Like, I don't even get how that plays in. Why does Sam have to make things easier for you? Is it because she thinks she regularly makes them harder? If so, aren't you an adult and can't you deal with it, without agreeing to the obviously terrible idea of a double date with your ex who you never said the right words to and disappeared on, and your new gf who is nothing like the ex, and has a habit of saying things without realizing how they sound, when aforementioned ex is going to be touchy af?"Lin wiggled on the plush red, twisting to see where Elvis was, before he looked back at Neil. "And why is it like pulling teeth to get you to talk about your gf without reference to Sam? Is she some key point in your relationship? Idgi."
