Re: Log, Ocean's Eleven: Neil D & Lin A
The sigh probably said it all. Double dates were questionable under good circumstances, never mind when two of the four had once dated and there was tension to spare. But a sigh summed it up fairly well, because Neil was tired, tired of trying to make things work and failing every single time, tired of differences always getting in the way. Maybe he just expected too much. Maybe it was better to keep Mere and Sam separate and just... hope for the best.
"Those are pretty low standards, no one being dead." Then again, maybe Lin had a point. At least it hadn't escalated to violence. He managed a smile when Lin joked about eating his words, and he had to laugh at the accuracy of his guess. "It was Sam's idea. She thinks that if Mere is welcomed into the family it'll make things easier for me. So, she tried. You're right." He had to stop and think when Lin asked what she was like, Meredith, and he wasn't sure what that meant. He tackled the latter first, because it was easier. Less of a serious question. "There's no good way to answer that," he said dryly. "But she's... well, she's beautiful. Smart. Supportive. It's just that... I don't think she understands Sam. I think she says things without realizing how they sound."
